5:1O you who have faith! Keep your agreements. You are permitted animals of grazing livestock, except what is [now] announced to you, disallowing game while you are in pilgrim sanctity. Indeed Allah decrees whatever He desires.4

5:2O you who have faith! Do not violate Allah’s sacraments, neither the sacred month, nor the offering, nor the necklaces, nor those bound for the Sacred House, who seek their Lord’s grace and [His] pleasure. But when you emerge from pilgrim sanctity, you may hunt for game. Ill feeling for a people should not lead you, because they barred you from [access to] the Sacred Mosque, to transgress. Cooperate in piety and Godwariness, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression, and be wary of Allah. Indeed Allah is severe in retribution.5

Commentary on this passage

Verse 1

2.In Islam business transactions are mentioned as vows. In this two parties make covenant with each other and act according to it, such as oath of business, oath of lease oath of Nikah etc.

3.There are two restrictions regarding animals. (i) It should not be hunted in the condition of Ehraam- pilgrim robe. (ii) It should not be carrion, swine and blood or not scarified by the name of the any other deity. This is mentioned in another verse.

Verse 2

4.In the year 6 AH, the city of Mecca was under the control of hypocrites and infidels and Muslims were prevented from circumbulation of the Holy Ka’ba. Muslims in Mecca obtained a victory in the year 8 AH and it came under their possession and as a natural inherent manner the feelings of taking revenge were created. At once Allah made restriction incumbent and said: Be careful! Old enmity should not incline for a new tyranny. Requital of tyranny against each other is in the battlefield and not everywhere.

5.A great social and political system of Islam is that sometimes, mutual cooperation is necessary and sometimes it is unlawful. and there is a limit between the two. If your act is good and lawful cooperation is necessary and it is bad cooperation IS unlawful. It is very essential to keep this point in view in revolutionary movements of society as without this nothing is permissible.
