Commentary on this passage

Verse 6

1.This the reply of humanity to the statement that there are curtains between you and Me. The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) announced that I am also a human being like you and revelation of Allah is the message for seeking pardon from Him and there is no such thing in it as to be a veil between us. These all are the things to remove the veil. Therefore this kind of excuse is not valid.

Verse 7

2.Zakat means to spend money in the way of Allah, otherwise this Surah is Meccan and the command of Zakat was revealed in Medina and we cannot expect polytheists to pay Zakat while there was no hope for faith and Islam from them. They are polytheists. They are not pure hearted; practically they are greedy and cannot distribute their money among the poor.

Verse 10

3.Allah has blessed the surface of the earth and has provided many useful things on it as proof that even if you let the population increase there will be no scarcity of Allah’s bounties on the earth and Allah’s calculation cannot be wrong. The foundation of poverty in the world is misdoing of wicked and wealthy people and the responsibility is upon the new generation. Otherwise Allah has blessed the earth and is not a miser in distributing His bounties. This is a capitalistic trick, that is used against the new generation and that they turn their hoardings and wrongful extortions towards them and befool the world.

Footnotes

Explanations of words and phrases in these verses

  1. 1

The verses of Quran are mentioned in detail and beliefs, deeds, halaal, haraam, advices, exhortations, teachings. good qualities are all mentioned separately in a lucid manner. It is revealed in Arabic language and it is the most comprehensive language. Otherwise the message of Quran is universal. It is not specifically for the Arab race.

  2. Benefit

The 7th ayat considers one who does not pay Zakat as a polytheist. This is probably because Zakat is spending ones wealth in the way of Allah. Thus his love for wealth is more than his regard for Allah. This is a kind of polytheism. Apart from this the traditions state that prohibition of giving of Zakat is infidelity.

  3. 2

There is difference of opinion between the commentators that these four days are different from the two days mentioned before or their sum total is four days. But all are helpless to explain what the fact is! How the world was created and how sustenance was fixed in it. But this however, has been clarified that sustenance is for all those who seek it and ifone person or group becomes its exclusive claimant to the exclusion of others, they are indeed oppressors.

  4. Benefit

The 11th ayat contains an open announcement that heavens are actually a mass of gas through which they were created and this is as per the most recent researches.
