31:20Do you not see that Allah has disposed for you whatever there is in the heavens and whatever there is in the earth and He has showered upon you His blessings, the outward, and the inward?

31:21When they are told, ‘Follow what Allah has sent down,’ they say, ‘No, we will follow what we found our fathers following.’ What! Even if Satan be calling them to the punishment of the Blaze?

31:24We will provide for them for a short time, then We will shove them toward a harsh punishment.

31:25If you ask them, ‘Who created the heavens and the earth?’ they will surely say, ‘Allah.’ Say, ‘All praise belongs to Allah!’ But most of them do not know.

31:27If all the trees on the earth were pens, and the sea replenished with seven more seas [were ink], the words of Allah would not be spent. Indeed Allah is all-mighty, all-wise.*

Commentary on this passage

Verse 22

1.One peculiarity of a rope is that it has two ends. One is to the elixir of immortality and other is in the hand of mankind and this elixir of immortality is obtained through this thing which is called the life of man. The divine law is also a sort of the rope of guidance. Its one end is towards Al1ah, as the law comes down from that side and another end is towards the human being because the law is made for the deliverance of people. And it is the duty of man to hold to this strong rope so that the relation of being Allah’s slaves remains firm and it also becomes easy to reach deliverance but there are two basic conditions of this. One is submission and the other is good deeds. The cord of guidance is impossible if the head is not bent with respect in the court of Allah.

This cord has descended from Allah. And if one is not having good behavior with people, submission and goodness is only a fallacy. It cannot be verified. One who submits himself to Allah, Allah also endows His whole universe for the benefit of His people and feelings of egoism are crushed in the awe of His creation.

Explanations of words and phrases in these verses

  1. 1

There is no doubt in the fact that Allah has bestowed man with both types of bounties, hidden as well as apparent and most of the bounties are such that they have a hidden aspect as well as an apparent one. Also that the bounties of Allah are unlimited and uncountable.

  2. 2

Knowledge is necessary for life sciences and experience, the intellectual guidance for problems and the Manifest Book for the Laws of Shariah. A part from this nothing is acceptable.

  3. 3

Indeed how kind-hearted is the Prophet that a disbeliever is beading towards Hell and he is worried that a creature is knowingly subjecting himself into perdition. Another aspect of sorrow and tragedy is that which is found in common people who are in trouble. The Almighty has replied this objection as well. That all this is only for a dirty punishment.

  4. Benefit

The figure seven is used many times in the 27th ayat by way of indication as in the ancient times this was the only perfect number. Expressed in seven heavens, seven days of the week, seven continents etc. Even after the help of the seas the words of praise cannot be exhausted. This denotes their infinite nature.
