2:185The month of Ramadan is one in which the Quran was sent down as guidance to mankind, with manifest proofs of guidance and the Criterion. So let those of you who witness it fast [in] it, and as for someone who is sick or on a journey, let it be a [similar] number of other days. Allah desires ease for you, and He does not desire hardship for you, and so that you may complete the number and magnify Allah for guiding you, and that you may give thanks.1
2:186When My servants ask you about Me, [tell them that] I am indeed nearmost. I answer the supplicant’s call when he calls Me. So let them respond to Me, and let them have faith in Me, so that they may fare rightly.2
2:187You are permitted on the night of the fast to go into your wives: they are a garment for you, and you are a garment for them. Allah knew that you would betray yourselves, so He pardoned you and excused you. So now consort with them and seek what Allah has ordained for you, and eat and drink until the white streak becomes manifest to you from the dark streak at the crack of dawn. Then complete the fast until nightfall, and do not consort with them while you dwell in confinement in the mosques. These are Allah’s bounds, so do not approach them. Thus does Allah clarify His signs for mankind so that they may be Godwary.34

Commentary on this passage
Verse 186
1.One day the people asked Prophet of Islam (s.a.w.s.) If our Allah is far from us we should call Him by prayer and if He is near we talk to Him secretly and plead to Him? Allah replied and removed the ‘say’ from between. So that the servants may realize the proximity of Allah that the reply is not conveyed through the Prophet but it is the kindness from that side and a responsibility from this side that they should be made a channel and medium so that through their intercession the prayer is accepted.
Verse 187
2.In the beginning in Islam, fasting used to begin after Isha prayer (till maghrib the next day) but some Muslims including Umar cheated and later repented to Prophet (s.a.w.s.). So Allah removed the restriction and made it lawful to go to their wives in the night of Ramadhan. Though it is Mustahab on the first night of Ramadhan.
3.The simile of the dress is the masterpiece of Quranic eloquence. A dress is a cover as well as an embellishment. A dress is a favourite as well as costly. If dress is worn out it is repaired, and if it becomes useless it is discarded. In Islam all these things are found in the relationship between man and woman.
4.In Islam copulation is not for physical pleasure alone. It is for getting children also. That why there are restrictions with regard to the times and circumstances and at the time of intercourse reciting Bismillah is recommended.
