Commentary on this passage
Verse 81
1.This is the covenant from Allah and has no connection with the present state of affairs. For the time being falsehood can demonstrate its quickness but eternal supreme authority is for Allah only. The obedient people of Allah should be satisfied due to Allah’s promise and should know that the end is with Allah.
Verse 82
2.The Holy Quran is healing the diseases in life and is the blessing after the death. But for seeking profit from it, faith and good deeds are necessary. otherwise the loss will be increased instead of profit.
Footnotes
Explanations of words and phrases in these verses
- 1
The spirit of life is not from the world of creation and causes. It is related to the world of command, and no one has been given a complete knowledge of this.
- 2
This is the first challenge from Allah which asks for a whole Quran. After this it is reduced to ten chapter and finally only one. The enemies were not able to even fulfill this. is another matter that they did not bring faith inspite of this.
Benefit
The Holy Quran is the cure of all diseases and a mean for future character building. If the unjust people cannot derive benefit from this, they are to be blamed because everyone acts according to his character and habit. According to some traditions, Shakila is embellishment because the real aim of action is intention.
Benefit: Though the disbelievers demanded different types of miracles their denial was not the denial of showing miracles but to announce that miracles were from the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.). but they were performed by the permission of Allah. Allah also does not accept the terms and conditions because some of the miracles demanded were outright foolish and some were aimed to destroy people and nothing more.
